Isabela Zawistowska is a director, cinematographer, and documentary filmmaker whose work centers human stories rooted in place, ecology, and lived experience.
Her films explore the relationships between people and the landscapes they inhabit—often focusing on themes of environmental resilience, the human spirit, and care for the natural world.Working in remote and outdoor environments, Isabela leads small, nimble crews and builds long-term, trust-based relationships with the communities she films.
She works closely with participants over time, prioritizing collaboration as an essential part of the storytelling process. This approach allows her to create intimate, vérité-driven portraits that move beyond the “what” of a story to reveal the deeper “why” behind it.
Her work spans independent documentary, docu-series, and branded storytelling for mission-aligned partners, including collaborations with producers behind Chimp Crazy (HBO Max), Tiger King, and Kiss the Ground (Netflix). Her recent film follows 69-year-old paraclimber Teresa Bennett as she navigates life with Parkinson’s disease and is currently beginning its festival run.
